4C (21) Tsang Suet Ying: I don't understand why hematite becomes red when it contacts with air and water.
回覆刪除4C (21) Tsang Suet Ying's ans: This is because hematite is Iron (III) oxide which is red in colour. It' s original form is iron. When iron contacts with the air and water, rusting and oxidizing occur. It becomes hematite, so that we can see the red colour.

回覆刪除Is batholith a kind of igneous rock?
4D23 Wong Ching answers:
Sure. In addition. there're two types of igneous rocks, extrusive and intrusive rocks.
The way of the rock form will decide which type of igneous rock is.
As batholith is formed through intrusive vilcanicity, so it is an intrusive rock.
3. Li Yin Ning: Are igneous rock and sedimentary rock the only rocks which can turn into metamorphic rocks?
回覆刪除Actually, rocks are broadly classified into three types, which are igneous rock, sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rock. These rocks may transform by different processes. Therefore, igneous rock may also transform into another kind of metamorphic rocks. For example, Slate (metamorphic) may turn into Phyllite; Phyllite may turn into Schist when high pressure or high temperature is involved.
